By now you should know that SA's Zozibini Tunzi is the new Miss Universe, all over social media her win is trending. Yes, we are celebrating because a South African woman has won, but there's to Zozi's win, it is a major paradigm shift, and here are some reasons why;
1) For the first time in the history, a black woman with natural hair has won this pageant. That alone sends the kind of message that we are here for, everyone is beautiful just as they are. No longer will women (young and old) stress to fit into beauty stereotypes, they can be who they want to be and still win at life.
'I came into this competition with my natural hair as a symbol of my firm belief in fair representation. I hope I have inspired people to insert themselves in spaces where they feel that people like them don't belong,' Tunzi said during the pageant last night.
2) Your dreams are valid. Zozibini entered Miss South Africa in 2017, and became a finalist, she didn't give up on her dream of winning the crown, she entered again in 2019 and won. Now that's a lesson worth noting.
3) Zozibini was crowned at the Tyler Perry Studios, a studio 100 percent owned by a black man. The studio is one of the biggest studios in Hollywood, owned by Tyler Perry, and a black girl was crowned there, what a moment.
