Kylie Minogue vs Kylie Jenner: What is actually going on?

Singer Kylie Minogue, 47, and reality television star Kylie Jenner, 18, are worlds apart except for one thing they share: their name. And now, in a bid to stop Jenner from trademarking the name ‘Kylie’, Minogue has filed a court notice.

Here’s everything you need to know about what’s going on…

Kylie Minogue has filed a court notice to stop Kylie Jenner taking ownership of the pair’s first name in the United States.

The youngest Jenner applied to trademark her first name through the US Patent and Trademark Office last August. Now, reports from the World Intellectual Property Review state that Minogue’s representatives have filed a comprehensive notice of opposition a week ago.

Minogue’s legal team, KDB Holdings, are arguing that if Jenner’s application was successful, it could confuse fans and harm Minogue’s brand.

They also cited numerous existing (US registered) trademarks approved in the last thirteen years including: “Lucky – The Kylie Musical” (for theatre), “Kylie Darling” (for a fragrance) and “Kylie” (for use in entertainment and commerce).

They also stated that Minogue was: “an internationally renowned performing artist, humanitarian, and breast cancer activist, Kylie Minogue, known worldwide simply as ‘Kylie’.”

Both parties seem to have kept the issue private so far.
