Huge congratulations are in order for Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. Both People magazine and TMZ report that the surrogate the couple hired to carry their third child is pregnant.
If you’ve been keeping up with Kardashian and West (pun intended), then this news shouldn’t be a surprise. In June rumours started floating that Kardashian and West had found a surrogate, and a month later it was reported that the surrogate was three months pregnant. This timeline aligns nicely with TMZ’s story, which states the baby is due in January.
Kardashian has talked openly about her fertility struggles on Keeping Up With the Kardashians. The media mogul suffered from placenta accreta after her second pregnancy, a condition where the placenta gets bound too closely to the uterine wall. It’s largely for this reason that Kardashian turned to surrogacy.
“My doctor had to stick his entire arm in me and detach the placenta with his hand, scraping it away from my uterus with his fingernails,” Kardashian wrote on her blog about the condition. “My mom was crying; she had never seen anything like this before. My delivery was fairly easy, but then going through that—it was the most painful experience of my life! They gave me a second epidural but we were racing against time, so I just had to deal.”
In a later episode of KUWTK, Kardashian told her friend, Jonathan Cheban, “I can’t carry any more kids…it’s the worst. It’s not going to be happy for me…I had a full break down…I give up.”
But she didn’t give up on growing her family—as this news proves. “I’d just love nothing more than to expand my family and just know that I have this world at home that’s safe,” she said on Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
Kardashian and West currently have two children: North, 4, and Saint, 1.
