Spring is in the air! Our 2022 Spring Issue is now available and is all about shedding the old and ushering in the new, improved, and rejuvenated version of yourself.
Our cover star is the fierce and fabulous Keke Palmer. Inside the issue, the award-winning actress and singer talks to us about the challenges that come with stardom, her biggest role yet, and what’s in store for her next chapter.
After winning our hearts as a young girl in Akeela and the Bee, her career has since sky-rocketed and we’ve watched her grown up on screen. Now, she’s on the brink of her biggest role yet - the lead in a Jordan Peele directed sci-fi horror film alongside Daniel Kaaluya.
Yet with all her fame and fortune, she’s remained humble and hilarious - and she’s loved for her unapologetic nature and tell-it-like-it-is attitude.
Here are 5 reasons why we can’t get enough of Keke Palmer
She’s grown up in front of us
We met her as a spelling bee champion who taught us the importance of determination and seeing our worth amidst those who don’t. Then we saw her as a young female entrepreneur in Nickelodeon's True Jackson, and as strong-willed Olivia in the 2012 musical comedy drama film Joyful Noise. As she grew up, so did her fanbase, as well as the roles she decided to play. In 2019, we saw portray the scheming stripper Mercedes, in the blockbuster film Hustlers with Jennifer Lopez. And now she’s taken on the sci-fi horror genre with Oscar-worthy buzz already surrounding her performance. Whatever role she plays, seeing Keke Palmer on screen brings us a sense of familiarity and comfort that takes us back to our childhood, and there’s nothing sweeter than seeing our girl catapult to superstardom.
She’s an unintentional comedian on the internet
If you’re clued up on social media memes, you’d know that Keke Palmer is a regular feature. From her famous “I don’t know who this man is” tagline to her hilarious interview on Watch What Happens Live where she posed the question “Where’s Lea at?” while searching for her Scream Queens co-star Lea Michele - there’s no shortage of hilarious impromptu moments.
She’s a multi-talented queen
One thing about child stars is that they’re always a triple threat - and Keke Palmer has served us acting, dancing and singing roles consistently throughout her career. She credits this to the encouragement of her mother. “She made me feel creativity wasn’t subjugated to just one medium and that I could always express it in different ways. I wasn’t thinking about it quite as articulately as that [at a young age]. I was more so thinking, I like to sing, act and dance,” she tells Glamour SA.
She’s had a budding music career
Keke Palmer has an impressive singing voice. The star explored this avenue by releasing handful of albums including "So Uncool" in 2007, "Awaken" and "Awaken Reloaded" in 2011, a self-titled record in 2012, "Waited to Exhale" in 2016, and "Virgo Tendencies" in 2020.
She’s a style star
Keke’s creativity has also extended into fashion. In 2009, she released a clothing line inspired by her role in True Jackson. Since then, she’s become a fashion chameleon, frequently taking fashion risks on the red carpet and channelling style trends on the cover of magazines. Whether ‘70s in the pages of British Vogue or the ‘80s/’90s on the cover of Glamour, Keke Palmer is not afraid to experiment with her style - and we love her unique take on everything she wears.
