The surprising beauty blender blunder we’ve all been making

The humble beauty blender entered our makeup bags a few short years ago and we honestly can’t imagine life without it.

The humble sponge has the ability to perfectly apply our  foundation, blend our concealer and smooth on our serums, but are you actually using it correctly? Turns out you’re probably not.

Hello! Magazine  enlisted Benefit MUA, Lisa Potter Dixon, to share the definitive guide to using a beauty blender and her advice is pretty game-changing.

Aside from the standard ‘dampen your sponge before application’ and ‘press the blender into the skin’, Lisa shared some handy hacks that took us by surprise.

Lisa explains that when you’re actually using the blender, you should always pop your product on your hand (rather than straight onto the sponge itself), before dipping the blender in and ‘bouncing’ it onto your skin. “Bouncing will give you an even, airbrushed finish,” Lisa explained.

And while we know you should clean your beauty blender every single week (yep!), Lisa maintains that you should avoid using washing up liquid.

“Many people have copied this tactic after seeing countless social posts but remember, the residue of the liquid is likely to end up on your face even after it’s been thoroughly washed and this can promote breakout,” she said.

Lisa prefers to opt for the brand’s own cleanser or baby shampoo instead.

We’ll definitely be incorporating these tips into our beauty regimes.
