Louis Tomlinson’s father has been diagnosed with cancer, just 18 months after his mother’s death

Just 18 months after Louis Tomlinson’s mother, Johannah Deakin, passed away after battling cancer, his father has spoken of his own liver cancer diagnosis.

Speaking to The Sun, Troy Austin, 49, confirmed he’s had a tumour removed, in hopes that the surgery has saved his life.

He said, “I believe my tumour was down to drinking and smoking. I can’t blame it on anything else…Some days I wouldn’t eat at all but would just drink and smoke. I would drink to celebrate the good times and drink to cope with the bad. Whatever life threw at me I would drink.”

The One Direction star hasn’t spoken to his father for around five years – Troy split with Louis’s mum when the singer was a week old.

Louis’s mother sadly passed away in December of 2016, just days before Louis was due to perform his new single on  The X Factor final. The singer bravely took to the stage for an emotional performance, gaining masses of praise from viewers.

At the time of her death, the family released a heartbreaking statement.

“It is with immeasurable sadness that Johannah Deakin’s family said goodbye to Johannah in the early hours of Wednesday, December 7,” the family said in a statement at the time.

“Earlier this year Johannah was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of leukaemia that required immediate and continuous treatment.

“Johannah was first and foremost a truly amazing mother to seven children whose individual talents and success are a testament to the principles and beliefs she instilled in them.”

We wish Troy all the best with his treatment.
