How to detangle your curly hair in 3 easy steps

When you have naturally curly or coily hair, there is only one fool-proof way to get rid of knots, tangles and matting – the LOC method. LOC is an acronym for liquid, oil, and conditioner. Detangle curly hair with this effective three-step system.

Liquid or Leave-In

If you have 3A to 3C curls, stand under the shower or fill a spray bottle with water and start working through knots with your hand or a detangling comb. According to experts, 4A to 4C hair shouldn’t be wet excessively. So if your curl pattern falls in the 4A to 4C range, apply a liberal amount of water-based leave-in conditioner to help get rid of pesky knots and matting.

Oil

Once you’ve managed to comb through most of your hair, apply a frizz-fighting oil to nourish your locks. Work a coin-size amount of oil into your hair, and use your fingers to separate curls and coils.

Conditioner

Define your curls by applying a moisture-rich conditioning cream. Brush through detangled curls, and style as desired.
