Go with your gut!

You probably don’t spend much time thinking about your gut, but according to recent research, that’s something that needs to change. In fact, studies have shown that the gut has a significant impact on the way the entire body works – and even the smallest of imbalances can have considerable repercussions.

Ever suffered from constipation, diarrhoea or inflammatory bowel disease? Chances are your condition was a direct result of an imbalance, one that could have been brought on by factors such as stress or poor nutrition. It’s for this reason that protecting and sustaining the delicate balance of your gut microbiome is so important.

In order to do this, Robyn Smith, founder of Faithful to Nature(faithful-to-nature.co.za) recommends the following practices:

Avoid toxins

Keep your intake of processed food, fast food and added sugar to a minimum, and avoid consuming dairy from hormone-treated animals.

Improve your nutrition

Start adding more unprocessed and plant-based foods to your daily diet. Organic fruits and vegetables, fermented foods like sauerkraut and kimchi, as well as lean protein and healthy fats are all good choices.

Live more healthily

Adopting a healthy, balanced lifestyle is key to optimal gut wellness. Quality sleep, regular physical exercise and effective stress management are all vital contributors.

Restore your biome

The right supplements can help to increase your digestive health and restore gut balance. “What many people don’t realise,” says Robyn, “is that an unbalanced gut biome is common to many of us, but we don’t have to just live with it. It’s a remarkable, responsive community of life that can be quickly restored if we just take the right actions that protect, soothe and replenish.”

Want to ensure that your health is the best it can be? Then it’s time to pay attention to those gut feelings, because true health, beauty and wellness start from the inside out.
