Before Africa month draws to a close, we thought we’d reach out to one of the continent’s most promising, young creative talents, Troy Massa. Hailing from Sierra Leon, Troy has created visual masterpieces with the likes of Jidenna, DJ Tunez (Wizkid’s DJ), Love & Hip Hop NY’s Sky Landish, among others, and he’s just getting started.

GLAMOUR: In 5 words, who is Troy Massa?
Troy Massa: African, Creative, Philanthropist, Social Entrepreneur
G: What is it about Africa that inspires you?
TM: Africa is the origin of many innovations, what is not to like about it! I like the vibrancy of colours, fashion, art, culture, dance, personalities and resiliency of a continent that has been through so much change.

G: Where do you think African fashion is heading in the next 5 years?
TM: Africa as a continent is a land that has a majority population being youth. With that said, African fashion has just begun! The use of prints, textile and abstract designs will soon be seen in public internationally. I believe that we will begin to see more and more African designers’ pieces on the mainstream media and red carpets from Hollywood to Paris!
G: Who are your favourite African designers?
TM: Right now I don’t have only one favourite because I am a designer myself. I do believe every designer is showing the world different perspectives on design and style. I can say, however, that I am really liking the use of prints – Ankara African/ Dutch Wax Prints. They are so different and refreshing; I mean, when you wear an Ankara piece you feel confident and will definitely be noticed for your unique play on style.

G: What advice do you have for young creatives from the African continent?
TM: Never give up, try and try again. Failure is not the end all be all. Failure is rather a process of learning so you can correct the challenge, so you can ensure that you are ready for the next steps to your progress!
