Beauty must haves according to Morag Steyn

Celebrity hair and makeup artist, Morag Steyn says there’s a lot going on in the industry, and that she draws inspiration from her surroundings and current trends, but what sets her apart is that she focuses on how she makes someone feel and not necessarily what she does or says. ‘I feel many artists express their work through what they are going through personally or it may be de ja vu from a past lifetime.’

The global artist, who is now based in SA, India, and Dubai says as artists they also inspire each other. ‘Right now in Dubai I am inspired by the glitz and the glam, it’s absolutely fascinating.’ But she is all about sharing the knowledge she has acquired over the years in the industry.’I genuinely try to accommodate all the up and coming artists who request to assist me, as I have once been there and I know how hard it is, I never want other artists to struggle, it’s a great industry and I truly love what I do.’

From time to time, Steyn imparts knowledge to beauty aficionados through masterclasses. She previously hosted Fashion Lab, a radio show on Cliff Central, where she shared tips, tricks and beauty secrets. This was a great segment and I loved it, with all my travelling it became virtually impossible to continue.’

But she still hosts practical masterclasses and has a couple up on her sleeve, nationally, starting with Durban, at The Capital Pearls Hotel, Umhlanga Rocks, this Friday.

She calls it an ‘evening of magic’ where a fun but intense session will take place. The purpose is to allow a real insight into makeup applications and shows you how to enhance your features. ‘It is suitable for anyone looking to improve their personal makeup techniques or for those who are in the industry.’ She teaches simple and effective techniques to apply makeup flawlessly from moisturiser to the perfect pout, learn simple and dramatic eyes for day and evening, as well as pro tricks that will have you looking professionally made up for every occasion.

Meanwhile, as a vegan she advocates for cruelty-free products and currently in her kit are these beauty must-haves:

  • Pure Organic Argan Oil for face and body
  • Caribbean Tan
  • Lush cinnamon hair shampoo bar
  • Smashbox BB Water foundation
  • Tom Ford Mascara
