There’s nothing more refreshing than a cosmetic surgery-free celebrity who has a figure we feel we can relate to. Selena Gomez is one of the most gorgeous women we have on our radar, and although she’s been blessed with great genes, it’s also because she’s unapologetically natural. Yesterday, pictures circulated of the 25-year-old singer wearing a bikini whilst on a yacht in Australia, sparking comments calling her ‘fat’ and ‘disgusting’. Regardless of the fact she recently underwent a kidney transplant, if a woman carries a little weight on her stomach, it doesn’t necessarily mean she’s unhealthy *eternal eye roll*.
Selena hit back at the body shamers, calling them out for their unrealistic beauty standards by sharing a carefree video from the same day the pictures were taken. She posted it on Instagram, captioned: “The beauty myth- an obsession with physical perfection that traps modern woman in an endless cycle of hopelessness, self-consciousness, and self-hatred as she tries to fulfil society’s impossible definition of flawless beauty. I chose to take care of myself because I want to, not to prove anything to anyone. Wind in her sails. 🌈💜”
