Bella Hadid unfollowed Zayn Malik on Instagram

The period that follows a breakup can often be a little awkward, especially if family is involved. In the time after Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik’s breakup, it looks like Bella Hadid is standing in solidarity with her older sister by unfollowing the former One Direction member on Instagram, as  Elle pointed out on Thursday.

Earlier this week, rumours that the couple had broken up after more than two years together started circulating when Zayn initially unfollowed Gigi, Bella, and all other Hadid’s on Instagram. Later on Tuesday, both Gigi and Zayn made public statements addressing their breakup. “Gigi and I had an incredibly meaningful, loving and fun relationship and I have a huge amount of respect and adoration for Gigi as a woman and a friend,” Zayn wrote. “I’m grateful to all of our fans for respecting this difficult decision and our privacy at this time, we wish this news could have come from us first. We love you all. xZ.” Soon after, Gigi uploaded a matching post. “I’m forever grateful for the love, time and life lessons that Z and I shared. I want nothing but the best for him and will continue to support him as a friend that I have immense respect and love for,” she wrote. “As for the future, whatever’s meant to be will always be. xG.”

Though each party’s list of who they follow can hardly tell the entire story, for the record, Gigi still follows her now-ex-boyfriend, plus several members of his family, including his mom, Trisha, sisters Doniya, Safaa, and Waliyha, and cousin Sarooha. Gigi follows almost 900 people total though, while Zayn is somewhat more selective, keeping his own list to a tight 29 at this point. Regardless of fans’ obsessively following the former couple’s every move on social media, it’s clear they want (and deserve!) their privacy — and that Bella is always there for her big sis.
