5 Tips for a happier day

It’s International Happiness Day and we know that in the hustle and bustle that is life, we sometimes forget to take a moment and realize what actually makes you happy. So we’ve put together a list of things that could help you have a happier day. Doing just a handful of these tips could influence your attitude towards the day. The happier of a person you are, the harder it will be for negativity to shake you. The happier you are, the stronger you will become. When you are happy, you will inspire others to be happy, as well.

When you wake up, set your intentions for the day

A new day means no beginnings and a fresh start. As soon as you wake up, take a moment to set an intention. What do you want to achieve today? How do you want to feel today? There’s no need to stop dreaming just because you woke up.

Smile at people in the street

A little smile never hurt anybody, so show off those pearly whites and share a smile with everyone you see. Obviously don’t walk around looking like a deranged Cheshire cat but you never know how your smile might affect someone else’s day. Just think of how you feel receiving a warm smile from someone when you’re not having the best day. In the end, if you’ve spent your day smiling, you’re guaranteed a happier day.

Appreciate the small things

Embrace the fresh smell of a new morning, enjoy the smell of your coffee in the morning. It may sound silly but try and enjoy your morning shower. Take pleasure in choosing your outfit and applying your makeup. It may seem irrelevant but if you enjoy the smaller things in life the bigger ones don’t seem so bad. Be grateful for the simple fact that you’re alive and the whole world is at your disposal.

Treat yourself happy

Gift yourself with something. It doesn’t have to be a lavish gift that breaks the bank. It can be anything from that chocolate you’ve been craving to taking the lunch break you generally skip. It can be anything as small as letting yourself eat breakfast at the table instead of your desk or buying yourself those shoes that have been sitting in your cart for ages.

Surround yourself with positive people

Happiness is contagious. If you surround yourself with positive people, you will be forced to join in with the positive vibes. Enjoy moments together and make memories for life.

Say thank you

Show gratitude to those around you. Thank your mom for always checking up on you even when it might annoy you. It’s coming from a place of love. Lost touch with old friends? Pop them a message thanking them for their friendship and making you happy. Thank the petrol attendant. Thank your boss. Thank the security guard. Gratitude will only strengthen your heart and possibly make someone else’s day.

List the things you’re grateful for before bed

Now that you’ve hopefully had a happier day, don’t let it go to waste. Before you bid farewell to the day, make a mental list of the things that made you happy today. It doesn’t matter how big or small, the fact that it improved your day matters.
