Kylie Jenner might have cost Snapchat $1.3 Billion with a single tweet

Say what you what you want about Kylie Jenner—the 20-year-old reality star has likely heard it all—but there’s one thing we can all agree on: The lip kit entrepreneur is a trendsetter.

Take, for example, on Thursday, whenKylie Jenner sent out a simple tweet asking her followers, “sooo does anyone else not open Snapchat anymore? Or is it just me…. ugh this is so sad.” The tweet came on the heels of the social media app’s redesign, one that apparently both Jenner and her followers aren’t feeling.

Following that tweet, which was liked more than 260,000 times, Snap Inc’s stock price plummeted by 7.2 percent. That meant that thanks to Kylie’s tweet, which she likely spent just seconds crafting, the company lost more than $1.3 billion in market value, according to Bloomberg.

Minutes after her first tweet, perhaps realizing the loss she caused to the company, Kylie noted in a second tweet, “still love you tho snap … my first love.” And really, it’s not entirely Kylie Jenner’s fault: Chrissy Teigen also tweeted about hating the update and more than 1.2 million Snapchat users have already signed a petition, asking the social media company to revert to its old design.

“With the release of the new Snapchat update, many users have found that it has not made the app easier to use but has, in fact, made many features more difficult,” the Change.org petition reads. “Many ‘new features’ are useless or defeats the original purposes Snapchat has had for the past years.”

In response to the petition, Snap Inc replied in part, “We completely understand the new Snapchat has felt uncomfortable for many. By putting everything from your friends in one place, our goal was to make it easier to connect with the people you care about most. The new Friends page will adapt to you and get smarter over time, reflecting who you’re most likely to be Snapping with at that moment.”

The company, however, did not back down from its plan to continue with the redesign. Instead, it noted that this is just the “beginning, and we will always listen closely to find new ways to make the service better for everyone.”

Maybe they should hire her as a consultant for their next redesign?
