Hailee Steinfeld played matchmaker for Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas seem to have known from the beginning that they were meant for each other. They began dating in December 2016, and the following September, they reached a big milestone: adopting a puppy. A month later, they announced their engagement. But it turns out that if it hadn’t been for a mutual friend of theirs, they may never have gotten together.

Hailee Steinfeld, who worked with Joe on the DNCE song “Rock Bottom” and has been good friends with Sophie for a while, encouraged the actress to get to know the singer, she told Nova 96.9’s  Smallzy’s Surgery show. When asked whether she’s played matchmaker before, she said, “I mean, I will say, I did get that text from Sophie being like, ‘So tell me about Joe,’ and I was like, ‘Go for it!’”  Elle reports.

“I actually just saw them both for the first time since they got engaged; I saw them together,” she added. “And yeah, I mean, I’m freaking out about it.” Same.

In an interview with  Entertainment Tonight last year, Nick Jonas confirmed that the couple is as in love as they seem. “As someone that knows [Joe] very well, I can tell you that he found his partner and the love of his life,” he said. “That’s all that matters. It’s a beautiful thing.” It really is, and they’re very lucky Hailee sent the text that started it all.
