Alicia Vikander is the hero we need in the Tomb Raider trailer

The trailer for the new  Tomb Raider  reboot is finally here and it looks like it’s going to be one epic adventure complete with Lara Croft kicking ass, taking names, and of course, just narrowly avoiding death.

Longtime fans of the iconic video games with the same name surely know the story of Lara, who’s being played by Oscar award winner  Alicia Vikander. But for those unfamiliar with the wildly-popular franchise, the movie follows the intrepid 21-year-old as she tries to find out more about her father’s mysterious death. As she find s out more about her dad, it seems like there are even more questions (just like any good action film).

Looking for clues, Lara’s heads to an island right in the centre of the Devil’s Sea. She believes that’s where her dad’s last-known destination was: a fabled tomb (hence “tomb raider”, duh). As Lara puts it in the trailer below, “it’ll be an adventure.” Turns out it’s much more than that as she encounters Mathias Vogel, a rival archaeologist of her father Richard Croft. There’s also an organization that calls itself Trinity, which is looking to start a global genocide. One of Richard’s final requests for his daughter? For her to stop them.

The trailer is jam-packed with action: a giant ship being plummeted by waves and Lara jumping into the ocean, escaping from some baddies, barely missing a ginormous waterfall, taking down some henchmen with a bow and arrow, and plenty more — all with a cover of ‘Survivor’ by Destiny’s Child being played in the background.

“You messed with the wrong family,” Lara says at the end of the trailer. And we can’t wait to see why. Check out the trailer below:
