Alison Brie just broke her silence on James Franco’s sexual misconduct allegations

On January 11, the  Los Angeles Times published a report about five women who accused James Franco of “inappropriate” and “sexually exploitative” behaviour. This came just days after the 2018 Golden Globe Awards, where James wore a Time’s Up pin in support of the current movement aimed at ending sexual harassment and gender imbalance in the workplace.

Since then, many have called out this seemingly hypocritical behaviour — including Scarlett Johansson during a speech at yesterday’s Women’s March. And now, his sister-in-law,  Alison Brie, has shared her opinion after Giuliana Rancic asked the  Glow actress about James’ allegations on the red carpet at the 2018 Screen Actors Guild Awards. (Alison is married to Dave Franco.)

“We spoke a little bit about the Time’s Up movement at the Golden Globes,” Giuliana said to Alison. “I know you’re a supporter of the movement, as am I, and so much of the movement has to do with transparency. And as you know your family and your brother-in-law [James Franco] has been in the news recently. What are your thoughts on that, and what can you share with us in terms of how that’s affecting you and your family?”

“I think that above all what we’ve always said is that it remains vital that anyone who feels victimised should and does have the right to speak out and come forward,” Alison said. “I obviously support my family, and not everything that’s been reported is fully accurate, so I think we’re waiting to get all the information. But of course now is the time for listening, and that’s what we’re all trying to do.”

James responded to the allegations himself days after the Golden Globes, during an appearance on  The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. “Look, in my life, I pride myself on taking responsibility for things that I’ve done. I have to do that to maintain my well-being,” he said. “I do it whenever I know that there is something wrong or needs to be changed, I make it a point to do it. The things that I heard that were on Twitter are not accurate, but I completely support people coming out and being able to have a voice because they didn’t have a voice for so long. So I don’t want to, you know, shut them down in any way. It’s, I think, a good thing and I support it.”
