Alexander Skarsgård didn’t mention domestic abuse during another acceptance speech

Sunday night at the 2018 Screen Actors Guild Awards, actor Alexander Skarsgård won his fourth award for his role in Big Little Lies, nabbing the victory for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie. But once again, people were disappointed with his acceptance speech.

On the HBO miniseries, Alexander Skarsgård plays the role of abusive husband Perry. It’s also later revealed that he raped a young woman named Jane. Considering the current climate in Hollywood surrounding sexual misconduct, many have held performers to a higher standard since allegations across the industry have started to arise. Earlier in January when the former True Blood actor accepted his Golden Globe award, many were frustrated with him for failing to even address the current conversations being had while winning an award for playing an abuser. On top of this, the night was one where many were championing the Time’s Up initiative, which has women from across Hollywood calling for better treatment of women in all industries. Plenty of actors wore Time’s Up pins, he included. Many audience members believed that if there was an opportunity to further bring light to this, it was when Alexander Skarsgård was on stage.

Yes, he has spoken out against domestic abuse in the past during interviews. But as he continues to win awards, many people have called him out for not full-on acknowledging the issue during his speeches. Instead, he joked, “A lot of people have been talking about who the greatest male actor ever is. Is it Mr Robert de Niro? Or the tall dude from True Blood? The thespians have spoken, thank you very much.” He then said he was shocked, humbled, and thankful for the award.

One person tweeted, “Why does Alexander Skarsgard continue to not mention victims of domestic violence at all during his acceptance speeches? #SAGAwards.” Another wrote, “Alexander Skarsgård has won multiple awards for playing an abuser in this current climate and not used the podium to comment. Tall, blond, and cancelled.”

Alexander Skarsgard has won two major awards this season now for playing a violent abuser and hasn’t said shit about it in either of his speeches.
