Emma Watson and William “Mack” Knight have officially split up, according to new reports.
The pair, who had been dating for almost two years, “amicably” went their separate ways earlier this year, according to Page Six. The news aligns with the fact that the two were reportedly last seen together on a date back in May. “They went [their] separate ways in early 2017,” a source to Us Weekly confirmed.
The original report also noted that Emma opened up to Vanity Fair three months before the breakup about how hard it is to have a boyfriend while living under constant public scrutiny. “I want to be consistent: I can’t talk about my boyfriend in an interview and then expect people not to take paparazzi pictures of me walking around outside my home. You can’t have it both ways,” she said. “I’ve noticed, in Hollywood, who you’re dating gets tied up into your film promotion and becomes part of the performance and the circus. I would hate anyone that I was with to feel like they were in any way part of a show or an act.”
People also reported that after Emma broke up with her ex Matthew Janney in 2014, she commented on the importance of learning to be happy with yourself, saying that afterwards, she went on a “silent retreat” to “figure out how to be at home with [herself].”
That said, according to Us Weekly, Emma’s representative said, “I’m afraid I don’t comment on my client’s personal life.”
