At ‘Rocking the Daisies’ 2017, we were lucky enough to catch up with Thom Powers, frontman of New Zealand indie electronic band, The Naked and Famous. The talented and equally handsome singer gave us the inside track on everything music, relationship and life-related. Take a look at what he had to say.
What would you say is your best attribute?
I wouldn’t say I’m the brightest person but I do have a natural knack for critical thinking.
Who or what inspires you musically, and why?
That is one of the hardest questions to answer. I would rather someone ask me to tell them a funny joke, because for some reason it just makes me freeze up. But we do have this go-to list of people that we are inspired by. It’s funny sometimes the thing that inspires you the most is actually being a musician, how you think you’re perceived by people and the way you want to be perceived by your audience.
What’s your idea of a perfect date?
That’s easy! Speranza – it’s an Italian restaurant in L.A. and it’s close to where I live. So basically we would just go there, drink a good bottle of wine, eat some great food and then maybe catch a movie afterwards at the Vista Cinema just around the corner from the restaurant.
Do you have any regrets when it comes to past relationships?
No, I think every relationship comes with lessons learned, and they also help you grow and mature as a person.
What fills the spot at the top of your dream destination list?
I would love to visit Crete in Greece. I love the fact that it’s an ocean-side town but it has houses up on the hill, so it’s kind of the best of both worlds and it looks amazing.
Who is your WCW? Why?
Alisa Xayalith (his band member).
What is the one thing you want to do while you’re in SA?
We actually went on a safari and that was really amazing for us. We saw the entire cast of the Lion King, except for elephants, which I was really gutted about.
