Selena Gomez is the most popular person on Instagram, with 126 million followers at the time of writing. So, if you’re tagged in one of her posts, you’re going to get slammed with notifications. Her future cast mate Elle Fanning learned this the hard way.
Elle told Vanity Fair that one morning, she was bombarded with Instagram notifications. “It was exploding with things. People were saying things and this photo kept popping up,” she said. It turned out Selena had posted and tagged a photo of her.
“I guess that’s what happens when someone has like a billion followers, posts your face, and tags you,” she said. “She was like, ‘I’m sorry I creepily posted the photo.'” But Elle didn’t mind, since she thinks it’s one of the reasons she’s now at 1.6 million followers. “I said, ‘No! Keep doing it!’ I’m getting more [followers],” she recalled.
This incident may have been accidental, but Selena’s said she sometimes intentionally tags people as a practical joke. “I love doing that to people,” she said on 103.5 KTU earlier this year. “If I tag them, I’m like ‘haha!'”
