Taylor Swift just teased her ‘Look what you made me do’ music video

Taylor Swift broke the Internet late Thursday night, August 24, when she dropped her new single ‘Look what you made me do’, her first solo song in over three years. The track is unlike anything she’s released before; it’s dark, hard, gritty, and very electronic. We’re in a new era of Taylor, y’all, and I like it.

Lyrically, she’s never been this pointed — or mad. It seems the subject of her fury — on this song, at least — is Kanye West. The evidence? 1) This lyric: “I don’t like your tilted stage” (Kanye famously used a tilted stage during his  Life of Pablo  tour), and 2) Taylor’s spoken-word voicemail at the 2:50-mark, which is probably a reference to the  phone conversation between Taylor and Kanye that Kim Kardashian leaked on Snapchat last year.

And the video for ‘Look what you made me do’ is equally as angst-ridden.  Good Morning America aired a brief preview of the clip Friday morning, and it looks like a more intense ‘Blank space’ — which is saying something because ‘BS’ was pretty damn intense.

Watch the preview for yourself, below:

This new video has many of the same elements as ‘Blank space’: an opulent setting — maybe another mansion? — lush costumes, and an aristocratic aesthetic. They’re even filmed in similar glossy-but-smoky styles. The difference, I think, lies in their executions. Taylor’s “crazy” behaviour in ‘Blank space’ was performed with a tongue-in-cheek wink; she was poking fun at the guy-obsessed image the media had assigned her. But she isn’t winking at all in ‘Look what you made me do’. She’s angry — genuinely angry — and she wants the world to know it. Also, a quick sidebar: Is that a Todrick Hall cameo?! We’re very here for that.
