Harry Styles: Musician, actor and fashion icon

Harry Styles hits the silver screen this weekend with his acting debut in Dunkirk, an action thriller about World War II. And although he might not be getting as much screen time as fans would have hoped for, director Christopher Nolan assures us that he does have a “small but pivotal role” and is crucial to the wartime film. “I think what he does is extremely subtle because it’s very real.”

When asked about his decision to venture into acting prior to the New York City premiere, Harry is forthcoming about his experience. “I started acting when I was younger in school,” he says. “I’ve always liked it, and have always been a massive fan of movies. When I heard about this, I just wanted to be involved. It’s an honour to be a part of this important story.”

Looking as handsome as ever while promoting the movie, Harry made his red carpet debut as an actor at the London premiere of Dunkirk in a custom Gucci mohair suit, paired with hand-embroidered Gucci boots. He didn’t miss a beat at the movie’s other premiere events either, from a Prada suit in France to a Calvin Klein tuxedo in NY.

Not afraid to experiment with fashion, Harry is the perfect billboard for the world’s most influential designers and brands. Even his bolder choices of bright pinks, wallpaper florals and bow blouses somehow look as if they were made for him – the hallmark of someone with true personal style. It’s no wonder he is fast being dubbed one of the most stylish men alive.

With his current success as a breakout movie star, it’s easy to forget that Harry’s first love is music. In May, he claimed his title as a true rock and roll prince with his self-titled, debut solo album – one that has been well received by fans and critics alike. His confidence is dazzling, never sounding like he’s trying too hard or scrounging for credibility – which is where many former boy band members have fallen short in the past.

Harry recently opened up about his new direction, giving fans more insight into how he feels about his solo path. “I wanted to step up,” he says. “There were songs I wanted to write and record, and not just have it be, ‘Here’s a demo I wrote.’ Every decision I’ve made since I was 16 was made in a democracy. I felt like it was time to make a decision about the future. And maybe I shouldn’t rely on others.

“The thing I didn’t want to do was, I didn’t want to put out my first album and be like, ‘He’s tried to re-create the ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, ’90s.’ I wanted to do something that sounds like me. I didn’t want to write ‘stories’, I wanted to write my stories, things that happened to me. The number one thing was I wanted to be honest. I hadn’t done that before. I’ve never had the process of making a full album in the way that I did with this one. I kind of wanted to see if I could write something that people liked without knowing everything about me.”

‘Two ghosts’ will be Harry’s second radio single as a solo artist, serving as the follow-up to his gold-certified, ‘Sign of the times’. The song is scheduled to hit radio stations in August, with Harry following up the release on a world tour this September and a string of dates heading into mid-2018. If the success of One Direction is anything to go by, Harry’s fame is sure to stay in style for many years to come.

Harry Styles’ album, Harry Styles, is now available to purchase in stores and online.
