Despite spending half a decade in the limelight as part of One Direction, Harry Styles is more of a mystery than ever, with his self-titled album, Harry Styles, straying away from the expected and veering into ’70s rock territory instead. Though at times Harry struggles with songwriting, the album is nevertheless redeemed by his exceptional singing voice, showcased to maximum effect on Californian-style classic rock and ballads. While ‘Sign of the times’ has been selected as the debut single from the album, it is the confessional tone of songs such as ‘From the dining table’ that truly invite you into the life of the real Harry Styles. It seems as if the singer is now firmly going in his own direction.
