Not using oils yet? Here’s why you should be!

It may seem as if using oils as part of your skincare regime is something of a fad (and it’s certainly become popular again) but this secret to perfect skin dates as far back as ancient Egypt. While the use of oils was a luxury enjoyed exclusively by the wealthy, the Industrial Revolution brought with it a more affordable solution – mixing the oils with water. Of course, the two substances needed to be stabilised with emulsifiers in order to mix effectively, producing a host of new products and resulting in the creams and lotions we know and love today.

What does this mean for your skin?

Well, it’s the oil that holds all the benefit, explains cosmetic scientist and owner of Cosmetic Solutions John Knowlton. “The water fraction has no real value whatsoever, except to make it feel good when you apply it – which is why pure oil or a mixture of oils is more potent.” What’s more, the outermost layer of your skin is also an oily layer, helping to retain moisture and facilitating the enzyme activity that produces the gorgeous glow we all covet.

How to stay radiant

Your natural glow is affected when moisture escapes, often as a result of harsh soaps, dry climates and ageing. Applying moisture to your skin isn’t the solution either, as moisture comes from within.

Enter our hero product: oil! Oils work to prevent the loss of water, so start your quest for dewy skin in the shower. TRY Lipidol Cleansing Face Oil and Lipidol Cleansing Body Oil which wash off dirt without stripping the skin’s natural oily layer, so it won’t leave your skin feeling tight and dry. Then boost your skin’s natural oily layer with the Lipidol After Shower Oil and Overnight Face Oil, all fragranced with essential oils and suitable for all skin types – even sensitive skin. With anti-burn and anti-itch properties, the Lipidol After Shave Oil will be a welcome to your shaving regime, supplementing the skin’s natural oily layer stripped away by shaving. Finally, make sure you’re protected with the Lipidol Sunscreen Oil (SPF 20).

Lipidol is made by the creators of Bio-Oil and is exclusively available at selected Clicks stores from R89.95 each. Click here to purchase Lipidol through Clicks’ online store. Visit www.lipidol.com for more information.
