4 Ways to stay positive and motivated on your health journeyFor most of us, starting a health journey to lose weight is the easy part. The hard part is staying on it and being motivated when times get tough. If you’ve found yourself starting over again for what seems like the hundredth time, these tips could help put you on the path to success – and keep you there.

1 Write to yourself

When you’re starting out, you’re full of enthusiasm, energy and excitement. However, once you get stuck into the daily grind, this early motivation can soon start to fade. Put that initial impetus to good use and write yourself a letter on the first day of your health journey, stating your goals and why you want to achieve them. Whenever you’re feeling down and ready to quit, your heartfelt letter to yourself can be the motivator you need to get back on track.

2 Restructure your life

If you’ve got chocolate in the house or an enduring love for the snooze button, you could soon find your new healthy habits starting to slip. Give yourself the best chance of success by restructuring your routine to ensure you’re always at the top of your game. Clear out all the junk food from your cupboards, train with a friend and make sure your weekend is filled with healthy activities. The fewer excuses you allow yourself to make, the more likely you are to drop that dress size.

3 Say cheese

Relying on the scale alone can ultimately be a demotivating way of tracking your progress. There are a number of reasons for scale fluctuations, ranging from bloating and water retention to eating a large meal the night before. But don’t let these discourage you and send you down the wrong path. Stay motivated by taking progress pictures and measurements. You’ll have a visual confirmation of your progress, and you’ll have the motivation you need to continue, no matter what the scale says.

4 Be committed

Always remember that it’s natural for your motivation to be stronger on some days than others. Rather than relying on motivation to help you through your health journey, rely on commitment instead. Being committed doesn’t mean obsessing over your health and working at 100% every single day – it means recognising that you’ve made a choice for your own good, and recommitting to it day in and day out. So embrace the power of commitment and start investing in yourself, your goals and your ultimate success!
