Beyoncé and Jay Z host “The Carter Push Party”

If anyone in the world were to re-brand the baby shower and call it a ‘Push Party’ it would be Beyoncé. Most likely named after the ‘push present’, the gift a woman receives after delivering a baby, the Carter Push Party took place over the weekend in Beverly Hills.

The A-listers who got the nod

We all know who’s in Taylor’s girl squad, but who does Beyoncé call bestie? The  guest list  at her Push Party was star-studded, featuring her Destiny’s Child sisters Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, tennis star Serena Williams (who is also pregnant incidentally – will we be witnessing a Williams Push Party someday soon?), La La Anthony, Vanessa Bayer and of course, Bey’s mom Tina and husband Jay Z.

The Push Party’s theme

The Carter Push Party’s theme was West African, which was a controversial choice, with many slamming the couple for cultural appropriation. Politics aside, we’re a little envious.

What we do love about a Push Party is that unlike baby showers, both men and women are welcome to attend. This is a refreshing step away from the stifling gendered events of the past – now both men and women can celebrate the new arrival (arrivals, in this case, as Bey and Jay Z are having twins). Another plus point? A Push Party is an actual  party, not a drawn out discussion of nipple pain and how to  properly burp a baby.

Trend forecast

Bey has raised the bar for baby showers to come. Trend forecasts for baby showers across the globe are coming in hot: the overall prediction is that the boring  ol ‘ pink-or-blue baby shower is a thing of the past. Welcome to the era of the Push Party,  ladies  and gentlemen.
