There’s nothing like a smooth-voiced musician to make us weak at the knees. Mathew Gold has it all — a family man with talent and rugged good looks to boot. We chat to the singer ahead of his new album release to learn more about the man behind the music.
What would you say is your greatest attribute?
Apart from the five instruments I play (drums, guitar, piano, bass and harmonica), my greatest attribute is that I’m able to hear things differently to other people – to identify sounds within a song that most people can’t hear. I also pride myself on my understanding of music and how it blends and crosses over. What I mean is I’m able to mash up songs in my head while listening to a DJ.
Who inspires you?
My father. He has overcome so many adversities, growing up near Worcester where nobody expected anything of the children of underprivileged hoods. I’m proud of how he manifested his own life and path.
What’s your idea of a perfect date?
To laugh and do something you’d never imagined doing before. I’m always up for an adventure. You don’t need a specific day in the week or weekend to have fun, so it should be a date that flows naturally from one experience to another.
What’s your favourite drink?
Rooibos tea.
What spot is at the top of your dream destination list?
Sri Lanka. I don’t know anyone who has been so I’m just really curious about the place.
Do you have any regrets when it comes to past relationships?
None. Living in the past and regretting what happened isn’t healthy.
What instantly attracts you to a woman?
Her hands, teeth, and obviously her smile.
Who is your Woman Crush Wednesday?
Zoe Saldana. I knew she was special after her performance in Columbiana. I’m not sure how good an actress she is, but she looks fine all the time.
