Is this the key to better sex and a lasting relationship?Ever wondered what the key to a great sex life and relationship longevity is? Friendship, apparently.

Yes, according to a team of psychologists in the US, this is the answer to relationship success. Conducted by a team at Purdue University in Indiana, the study took 184 people that had been in a relationship for 16 months or longer and asked them what they valued most in a relationship. Those who stated “friendship” were found to have a much more satisfactory sex life.

Speaking to The Independent, one of the authors of the study, Laura VanderDrift, said finding a partner who was “first and foremost a friend” was the best way to give your relationship the best chance of longevity.

“We found that valuing the friendship component of one’s romantic relationship is important,” she said, continuing: “It leads to better relationship outcomes over time, including a more satisfying relationship, a better friendship with one’s partner, and even greater sexual satisfaction.”
