Makeup dilemmas, solved!

He’s been in the makeup industry for more than 18 years, has worked in international cities like London and Miami and has rubbed shoulders with celebs like Elizabeth Hurley. Now, makeup legend David John answers your beauty questions.

“I’ve never worn makeup and I don’t know where to start. Help!”

“Start with your tool kit. You’ll need mascara, an eye pencil, blusher, lip liner and lip gloss.” Now, here’s an easy look everyone can do. “Apply blusher to your eyelids and cheekbones for a pretty flush. Draw on your eyeliner close to the lashes to make them appear thicker. Finish with mascara. On your lips, draw on the lip liner and blend it with your fingertip or a lip brush all over your lip. Finally, apply a lip gloss. It’s pretty – and easy!”

“Graphic eyeliner patterns are popular on the runway. Can you really wear them in real life?”

“It’s not a day-to-day look, but you can adapt it for yourself with a bold eye. Use a pencil liner to draw on a guide, then go over it with a liquid liner. Or, try a colourful liner to make your eyes pop.”

“I took ages to get ready for my party, but when I saw the photos, my foundation looked another shade – grey! What happened?”

“Your foundation may have contained a high sun protection factor – anything over SPF15 can leave a white light over your skin. But don’t throw it away: simply mix in a BB Cream which is one or two shades darker than your foundation for a dewy look.”
