Kendall Jenner explains her not-so-Kardashian beauty vibe

When it comes to beauty, Kendall Jenner definitely errs on this side of minimal. And while the supermodel (and face of Estée Lauder) figured out her beauty groove early on — with a little help from her sisters — it turns out she does not follow every Kardashian family law. GLAMOUR caught up with her for a quick-fire Q&A about her personal takes on beauty, and how she’s carving her own path.

Her sibling beauty advice

“My [older] sisters went to makeup school when they were teenagers. Their dad sent them so that when they started to do their own makeup, they wouldn’t look like crazy teenage girls who didn’t know what they were doing. So my sisters always had good tips. Growing up, Kim spent the most time in the bathroom. And Kylie still begs to do my makeup. But I don’t know if her style of makeup is my thing. I don’t wear her lip kits as much as I wear my Estée Lauder colour.”

Her ‘aha’ moment

“I first started getting my hair and makeup done for the red carpet maybe six years ago. I was really into black eyeshadow. But one makeup artist was like, “No, no, no. Less is more. You’re young; you should definitely be more natural.” And since then, it stuck with me — I love doing less.”

Her keep-it-simple skin care approach

“I wash my face with a gentle cleanser in the morning and before I go to bed. I don’t like to do too much to my skin. I feel like the more I do, the more confused it gets; I have sensitive skin. I put on EltaMD SPF46 sunscreen every day.”

Her nonnegotiable bedtime beauty rule

“I can’t go to bed not fully clean. I would never even let my friends get into my bed with their makeup on. I’m so OCD about it.”

Her best lived-in-hair trick

“Showering before bed, then sleeping with wet hair. When you wake up, it has that bumpy look to it. I love that.”

Her beauty regret

“I have tons — tons. One time I used one of those vanity mirrors, the close-up magnifying kind, and plucked literally all of my eyebrows off. Khloé yelled at me: “You can’t touch your eyebrows until they fully grow out!” It was so not cute; I was mortified. Once my brows started to grow out, she took me to my first eyebrow lady. Now I just fill them in with an Estée Lauder pencil.”

Her everyday fragrance

“Anyone who knows me knows I love the fresh scent of vanilla. That’s always my thing. I’m really into Modern Muse Le Rouge Gloss. I’m not the traditional put-it-on-your-wrists-and-rub-it-together girl. I wear it all over.”

Her favourite ’90s beauty reference

“I love Cindy Crawford’s Pepsi commercial.”

Her getting-ready music

“Frank Ocean, obviously. And I’m still kind of stuck on Drake’s album.”

Her last-minute touch-up move

“This is going to sound unsafe, but I do my makeup at red lights.”

Her glow hack

“A spray tan. Oh my word, it makes me look so much better.”

Her favourite grooming look on a guy

“I dig grungy. But you have to know how to rock it. ”
