10 Minutes with Locnville

Andrew and Brian Chaplin are the sexy, charming and hilarious voices behind the electro hop music duo Locnville. We sat down with the twins ahead of their highly anticipated New Year’s Eve performance at the Jameson Vic Falls Festival to talk music, crushes and more.

When and how did you first start experimenting with music?

We’ve been experimenting with music since we were about 6 years old. Truth be told, we’ve kind of gone through every genre that there is; we used to like rock, we’ve done acoustic and have tried straight-up rap, but we really found the Locnville sound when we were around 18 years old.

What’s been your career highlight so far?

There have been so many, but probably when we won Best African Act at the 2013 MTV Europe Music Awards. Getting to walk the red carpet with a whole bunch of people that we really admire was definitely one of the biggest moments in our career.

What was Locnville’s very first gig?

Our first good performance? *laughs* When we were about eight, we used to play guitar outside shopping centres with a hat out, and even managed to send a group of underprivileged kids to Ratanga Junction using the money we’d earnt. We raised about R800 and then got KFM involved and sent the kids to Ratanga. It was great!

Who is the artist you’d love most to collaborate with one day?

This changes all the time for us. We’ll hear someone new that we really like and think of what we could create together. So for where we’re at now, we’d really love to do something with Kranium.

Which one of these festivals would be your ultimate to headline at; Ultra, Tomorrowland, V Fest or Coachella?

Coachella for sure!

Who are your celeb crushes?

Andrew: I think Olivia Wilde is really hot.

Brian: Adriana Lima.

What do you look for in a lady?

Andrew: For me, confidence is a big thing. She can’t be needy and needs to have her own life and not feel the need to latch onto mine. So confidence and independence.

Brian: I’d have to second that – confidence and independence are two of the sexiest things.

If you weren’t musicians, what do you think you would be doing career wise?

Something in film for sure, probably acting or directing. At some point, we’d love to get involved in the film side of things.

What are you most looking forward to at the Jameson Vic Falls Festival?

Just getting out there again, as we haven’t been in about two years. It will be great to see everyone again and jam out all our new tunes, because there’s so much stuff that people haven’t seen live yet from our latest album Taste The Weekend. We’ve always had a fantastic at the Jameson Vic Falls Festival.

Loncville’s latest album, Taste The Weekend , is available at all major music outlets. Ring in 2017 with Locnville and other top SA and international acts at the Jameson Vic Falls Festival; tickets available at webtickets.co.za
