Prada’s autumn/winter 2016 collection is launching in SA

Prada devotees rejoice! The high-fashion brand’s autumn/winter 2016 collection is available right now in their Sandton City store.

Inspired by the female traveller, the collection first showed at Milan Fashion Week in February, and the fashion world marvelled at the layered silhouettes, sailor caps, tailored coats fastened with external corsets and vagabond appeal. Perhaps one of the most interesting elements of all is designer Miuccia Prada’s use of prints, which are a result of her collaboration with French artist Christophe Chemin, who drew on 16th-century tapestries and modern-day PlayStation games to create original artworks for the collection.

“We need to understand who we are today,” Miuccia told the audience after the show. “Everything is symbolic. It is like a collage of what is happy or painful, of whether you are feeling beautiful or horrible, when you have love or no love. I thought of it as like someone who has all the clothes she’s ever had on the floor in front of her in the morning, and she must choose how she’s going to assemble herself.”
