Adele and Beyoncé lead MTV Video Music Awards 2016 nominations

Adele and Beyoncé will go head to head at the MTV Video Music Awards 2016.

The 28-year-old singer’s comeback video ‘Hello’ has been nominated alongside the 34-year-old star’s equally amazing ‘Formation’ video in the top categories ahead of this year’s ceremony.

The pop princesses will battle it out for the coveted Video Of The Year award as well as the gong for Best Female Video and Best Pop Video.

Meanwhile, Beyoncé leads the pack with 11 nominations including a nod for Best Choreography and Best Cinematography whilst her collaboration with Kendrick Lamar on ‘Freedom’ also earned her a nomination.

And Adele didn’t come too far behind with seven nominations for her track ‘Hello’ as well as an eighth for the music video for ‘Send My Love To Your New Lover’, which was nominated in the Best Visual Effects category.

Kanye West’s controversial ‘Famous’ video also received two nods for Video Of The Year and Best Male Video.

In the latter category, he will go head to head with The Weeknd for ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ as well as Calvin Harris’ collaboration with Rihanna on ‘This Is What You Came For’. Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’ and Bryson Tiller’s ‘Don’t’ complete the category.

For the girls, aside from Adele and Beyoncé, Ariana Grande (‘Into You’), Sia (‘Cheap Thrills’) and Rihanna and Drake (‘Work’) will battle to be crowned Best Female Video.

Not one to be missed out, Justin Bieber also receives a nod in the main categories – Best Pop Video, Best Male Video and Best Breakthrough Longform Video – for his song ‘Sorry’.

The late David Bowie could be awarded one of four VMAs posthumously, receiving nods for ‘Lazarus’ in the Best Direction, Best Editing and Best Cinematography categories and a further nomination for ‘Blackstar’ for the Best Art Direction.

The winners will be revealed at a star-studded ceremony at the famous Madison Square Garden in New York on August 28.
