New season fashion you need now!

Want to catch the best winter trends? Linda Levy, the managing director of Aussie brand Witchery, advises on what, where and how to wear them.

What are the three biggest clothing trends for this winter?

Mom jeans

R899Knitwear is key in winter, and the hero buys include the roll-neck sweater, tube skirt and oversized cardigan. Wear the cardi or sweater with the season’s new denim pieces – kick flare jeans, mom jeans and baggy boyfriend jeans – for a great weekend look. Just add fresh white trainers and you’re good to go!

Longline tunic

R999Shirting is also a trend you’ll see everywhere, so try a classic white shirt with sport-luxe track pants, paper bag waist pants or layered over a fine roll-neck sweater.

Sheer black top

R699Then there’s the focus on boudoir dressing with lace, velvet and lingerie undertones. This is the trend to buy now, as it will last into summer. Slip dresses especially are easy to layer over a fine knit or shirt, or worn on its own when the weather warms up.

Are there any shoe trends we should keep our eye on?

R899The trainer is the urban must-have and I love our supple leather Liam Sneaker, which looks great with cropped denims and an oversized knit for relaxed off-duty cool or with a slip dress layered over a tee for a downtime vibe.

Perspex heel boot

R1 299Lace-up stiletto ankle boots take the Victorian era trend straight off the runway – try them with bare legs to add a kick of sex appeal to a sleek black outfit.

R899The loafer also lends a sleek androgyny to tweeds, knitwear and denim, and it’s great with jeans or cropped trousers!

The handbag is every woman’s essential item. Are there any styles that are trending for the winter season?

R699Speaking to the modern equestrian theme, the saddle bag is a key buy – especially when it’s colour-blocked in earthy tones like chocolate, russet and rich cognac. Our suede and leather Ava design with gold hardware is my favourite in this style.

R399Then you want to add a good clutch to your closet. Ideally, something with a lush detail like a bow or ruched centre and soft gold details. A detachable strap is brilliant here as you can hold the bag in your hand or tap into winter’s wristlet trend.

R999Finally, the backpack is not going anywhere anytime soon as it’s perfect for work, gym and beyond. Our Nadine style is a sleek carryall with pared back sports appeal.

Military coat

R2 999 If we were to buy just one winter piece, what should it be?

Our double-breasted military coat in navy is my pick for this season’s hero piece. It’s the perfect fusion of timeless practicality and directional style.

We know winter’s only just started, but what trends can we look forward to for summer?

For summer, shirting is key and will be the cornerstone of stylish wardrobes. When it comes to prints, you can’t ignore the essential stripe – from classic pinstripes to bold, graphic lines. And I’m really looking forward to seeing lingerie leave the boudoir, with ’90s-inspired slip dresses and silk pyjama shirting bridging the gap between day and night.

And which winter trends will continue into the spring/summer season?

Our First Edition capsule collection (in-stores now) picks up on the latest international runway looks with wonderful fabrics and styling. Look out for luxuriously soft pinstriped pants (a key print for the upcoming summer) and a washed silk button-down shirt, which is a nod to pyjama dressing and the importance of shirting. In terms of shoes, I can’t ignore the wonderful Mischa ballet flat – with its square toe, higher top line and soft elasticated edge detail, it’s going to be an everyday must-have!
