Randy Fenoli chats wedding

If you’re a reality show fan then you may be familiar with  Say Yes to the Dress star Randy Fenoli. But that’s not his only claim to fame – Randy is also a designer, and fashion and beauty expert, making him the perfect man to give us the lowdown on all things wedding.

What are the benefits of attending a bridal fair, such as Bridal Fair SA?

It’s a great place to meet all the vendors that you’re going to need at your wedding and really compare them. Sometimes you’ll see things you’ve never even thought of. Every bride wants their wedding to be unique, and there are so many new and exciting things out there.

What can you expect if you’ve never attended a bridal fair?

It’s a great one-stop shop for weddings where you can gather all the information and tools you need to prepare for your big day, such as a venue, DJ, photo booth, cake, flowers, etc. At this year’s Bridal Fair SA, I’ll be guiding women on how to find the perfect wedding dress. So many brides are anxious about it and I break it down to a simple, easy and fun process.

Is it wise to attend alone?

There’s no magic number for how many people; it’s about who you bring. People who are supportive and understand what your style is and the look you’re trying to achieve. Your entourage should also be respectful of your budget. Make sure that everyone understands these rules before you get to the fair.

Is it beneficial for the groom to attend too?

There are certainly elements that will appeal to the groom, and I believe there’s even a gentlemen’s lounge at Bridal Fair SA. Gents will learn a lot and get some insight into what’s hot and what’s not, especially when it comes to picking the perfect suit.

What are the key bridalwear trends this year?

Shorter trains – brides are thinking more about the reception instead of the ceremony. They don’t want to carry around all that fabric throughout the night, plus it’s difficult to dance in. Emphasis will be placed on the back with detailing or low cuts. This season, gowns varied from extremely simple to the most ornate, and from formal and traditional to relaxed and bohemian. Some unique laser-cut fabrics were introduced and dresses with dimension, texture, ruffles and movement were everywhere. There is something for every bride out there!

What are the key trends in bridal hair?

The hair is an important part of a bride’s complete look. With wedding hairstyles for long hair, you can unleash fantasy and try the most striking braid patterns, sleek glossy waves, glazed curls or asymmetrical details. For medium-length hair, it’s all about magnificent updos or half updos. Short wedding hairstyles are all about texture and delicate hair accessories.

What are some tips for cutting wedding costs?

Craft your budget carefully and spend money on the things that are important to you and your fiancé. You should be flexible within your budget but not with your budget. For example, you’ve allocated a certain amount for a gown but find the dress of your dreams that’s slightly over that budget. You could cut part of the budget from your flowers to cover the amount. You can also compare vendors or DIY some of the decor, however, be careful or the only thing you will love in the end will be the price.

The Bridal Fair SA takes place at Montecasino from 27–29 May. Tickets are available at bridalfairsa.co.za.
