Getting to know Mishqah Parthiephal

You may recognise her from the Discovery TV advert currently gracing our screens, but it is clear that actress Mishqah Parthiephal is destined for big things.

Having been featured in a number of arthouse films that premiered at the Durban Film Festival, this talented actress has also worked with the talented Quizzical Pictures and Ramadan Suleman.

The Joburg-based actress’ latest film, PARAYA, directed by Sheetal Magan and Martin Morganfeld, premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival!

We caught up with the 26-year old beauty and got all the fast facts!

When did you first discover a love for acting?

I always knew I wanted to act from a very young age. I can’t really pinpoint an exact time.

You are currently on TV in the Discovery advert, when were you cast in your very first TV advert?

I can’t remember my first TV advert. I do remember my first on-screen acting job, though. It was in 2009. It was a music video for Muslim artist, Zain Bhika’s song Who I am.

Who is Mishqah when she is with her friends and family?

I’m definitely that one friend who likes to make naughty jokes! I can be fussy sometimes and a bit of a neat freak.

What in your opinion has been your biggest achievement to date?

Honestly, I think my biggest achievement is yet to come. But I’m extremely proud that I have a film premiering at this year’s Cannes Film Festival under the Quinzaine De Realisateurs.

What message of encouragement would you like to share with our female readers?

This one of my favourite quotes: “Whatever you do, be different – that was the advice my mother gave me, and I can’t think of better advice for an entrepreneur. If you’re different, you will stand out.” – Anita Roddick. It’s OK to be different. It’s so easy to flock.
