Green Cross BootsWind, rain, freezing morning temps… It’s official, winter is coming to South Africa! And our footwear of choice will be boots, boots, boots all the way. But with so many styles, colours and finishes to choose from, how do you know you’re buying the correct pair? GLAMOUR headed to footwear experts Green Cross for the answers. Here are their top tips to ensure we choose the perfect pair.

1 Go for classic styles that will last for years to come

This season, the boho-festival ankle boot and classic equestrian long boot are the styles to go for. They’re both super trendy now but have a classic allure  that ensures they show up year after year. For an alternative to boots, opt for a pair of classic Mary-Jane heels as vintage-inspired fashion is all the rage this winter.

2 It’s all about variety and versatility

Ankle boots can be worn throughout the year, even during summer when they look fantastic paired with a cute dress. Similarly, equestrian boots work beautifully with winter skinnies and knits or a shorter floral print dress on warmer days. Black and chocolate brown are classic colours while  lighter colours, such as tan, have a relaxed, casual look.

3 Good care is key

The key to ensuring the longevity of your boots is to care for them properly Leather needs to be polished or fed with a leather cream to maintain its lustre while suede boots need a coat of water-repellent spray before their first outing – this will protect them from rain and mud, and will  make it much easier to remove dirt. Keep them in their original box and use a boot shaper to ensure they stay in great condition. When summer rolls around, store your boots upright in a dry, well-ventilated area.
