Kamini Pather may just be South Africa’s next big thing

In just three years, Kamini Pather went from being a MasterChef winner to a South African Film and Television Awards winner.

This past weekend, Kamini and Girl Eat World TV won the South African Film and Television Award in the non-fiction TV category for The Best Magazine Show, beating Top Billing and Man Cave. The fact that they were up against some of the industry’s powerhouses makes this win even more impressive!

Girl Eat World is a 10 part food and travel show which follows Kamini as she travels to 10 destinations (Johannesburg, Bangkok, Tokyo, Sydney, Lima, Philadelphia, Berlin, Milan, Copenhagen and Dubai) to meet with food bloggers who show her their cities through food.

The show was produced as a collaboration between Lucky Bean Media and Like Harmony and was broadcasted on SABC3, The Food Network in the EMEA regions and is still on Netflix USA. The feedback from the USA and Canada has been breath taking with many people on social media sending their warm praise and showing their excitement for season 2.

Kamini not only has a passion for food but also has a passion for South African fashion. At the SAFTAs, she wore a dress by Erre Fashion and jewellery by Kirsten Goss. Recently Kamini also got appointed as the ambassador for Convoy, a collaboration between six proudly South African designers each bringing a fresh and exciting design element to an exhilarating shop space in Johannesburg.

“I believe that my food philosophy of eating local is linked with my fashion philosophy,” says Kamini. #EatLocalWearLocal is the hashtag that Kamini has been harvesting. In 2015 Kamini also won a SA Style Award for ‘The Next Big Thing’. She’s definitely one to keep an eye on!
