Needing some Monday motivation? We’ve got just the perfect visual stimulation to get you through this week. Meet this week’s Man Candy: Felix Obas.
Felix is born and raised in Laplaine in Haiti, the Caribbean country that shares the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic. At the tender age of 9, he relocated to Florida, USA after the numerous challenges he faced living in Haiti. He used those struggles (as well as his move to the USA) to build his life, garner his dreams and fulfill his aspiration of becoming a model and actor.
He was scouted 7 years ago and introduced to the world of modelling, acting and photography. Armed with this initial modelling experience, he now had coast to coast contacts and felt ready to seriously pursue his dream of becoming a high fashion, international model and actor. “My continued success and experience within these industries have helped me understand what it takes to be successful,” he says.
As a model, fitness and health have become a huge part of his lifestyle so it was only natural for him to combine the two. Felix is currently full-time model-actor and part-time fitness instructor. When he isn’t busy slaving away on set or in the gym, he loves both playing and watching football and he’s obsessed with the card game UNO.
Felix has assumed many roles as a model-actor, but his absolute favourite was when he shot a Nigerian commercial last year with a 5 year old boy who was playing his son, and actually got to teach him how to ride a bike for the first time. “I love the time I spent with him because he reminded me of my son Jaden and the special time we have together, I fully enjoyed that moment!” So adorable!
When asked what important lessons he’s learned throughout career thus far and what advice he would give to aspiring models, he responded: “I always say life lessons are very important to us, we need to learn from our mistakes and correct our errors before we have the chance to become who we want to be. Love yourself, know what you want out of life, be selfish with your time, keep a small circle – mainly family, fake it till you make it, stay hungry for more and strive to remain humble”.
Felix is currently in Cape Town for the 2016 modelling season and also working on his website www.obasnation.com, an App, and a calendar for 2017, so keep a lookout for this multifaceted young man.
