7 Foods for healthier hair

We all know the saying ‘you are what you eat’, but how often do you think about the effects that your diet may have on your hair? Changing up your eating habits may be the solution to solving your brittle and dull hair woes.

Our bodies need a daily intake of vitamins and minerals in order to keep us healthy and functioning as best as possible. The same goes for your hair. Your locks grow and repair themselves so they need the added benefits of healthy eating to assist in these processes.

Here are seven things you need in your diet to keep your hair as healthy as possible.

1 Protein

Hair is made up of a protein called keratin which is the key structural component to healthy hair. If you eat more protein-rich food, your hair will become stronger and fuller within six months.

2 Vitamin Bs

Eggs are filled with a vitamin called Biotin, which assists with hair growths. Pork tenderloin contains vitamins B6 and B12, which helps create more red blood cells that carry oxygen and nutrients to your follicles and scalp.

3 Veggies

Vegetables like lentils, bell peppers and spinach are packed with nutrients like vitamin A and C, iron, beta carotene and folate. These all work together to promote a healthy scalp.

4 Fish

Our bodies also need the healthy fats found in fish. Oysters, salmon, sardines, and mackerel are packed with healthy zinc and omega-3 fatty acids. Not only do these help fight diseases, they also gives you healthy shiny hair.

5 Beta carotene

If you suffer with dry hair, add sweet potatoes to your diet right now! They are filled with a vitamin called beta carotene, which your body turns into vitamin A. This encourages the glands in your scalp to produce an oily fluid called sebum.

6 Fruit and Yoghurt

If you have a bit of a sweet tooth, this one’s for you. Eat guava and Greek yoghurt which will stop hair breakage and help build back your locks. They contain nutrients like vitamins B5 and vitamin C which aid blood flow and help strengthen hair.

7 Cinnamon

If you’re a breakfast kind-of-person, sprinkle a little cinnamon over your oats or in your tea in the morning. This will help with blood flow and circulation, helping nutrients to reach your follicles during the day.

Remember that too much of anything is never good, so eat these in moderation and see the beautiful results of your healthier, happier, shinier hair.
