5 Rules for touching up your roots

When a tinted dry shampoo no longer hides the obvious! Follow these simple DOs and DON’Ts for a pro at-home root touch-up:

DO Swipe a clear balm, like petroleum jelly, along your hairline and on the tops of your ears BEFORE colouring your roots. This will create a ‘barrier’ so there’ll be no chance of staining your skin.

DON’T Work in big sections. If you want an even application, part your dry hair and brush on the dye in 6mm pieces. Continue the process until all your roots are covered.

DO Put hair colour on the grey areas first. Greys are drier and coarser, so they need a little extra time to completely absorb the dye.

DON’T Get stuck between the lines. You definitely don’t want that harsh line of demarcation where your roots and your old colour meet. To avoid this, use a wide-tooth comb half way through the drying process to work the colour from the roots to the midshaft.

DO Brush dye on several times as its drying to ensure that every single strand is fully saturated with the formula.
