GLAMOUR Hair summer 15/16

EDITOR’S LETTER

You know the old saying, ‘the cobbler’s children have no shoes’ ? Well, I’m a little like that with my hair. I’m obsessed with everything to do with the subject – I love looking at styling ideas, new colours, interesting cuts. Heck, I can do a French plait, fishtail plait, inverted plait and now even a four-strand plait (see page 16) – on myself!

But do I ever? Nope. In fact, I generally stick to a classic, loose style: a chocolate-brown long bob. Until recently that is, when I decided to go bronde (a new term coined to describe the blonde-brown locks on celebs everywhere). It’s not a huge leap when you consider the latest trending colours – hello, pink, blue, purple and grey! – but it’s enough of a change to satisfy my secret desire to be a blonde.

The transformation has taken a couple of months as my hairstylist is big on preserving hair health. She randomly painted very fine highlights called babylights, then added more at every appointment until my colour was less brown and more caramel.

Finally, she introduced different tones using the butterfly painting technique, which has a spontaneous effect. (It also means that regrowth is much less obvious.) The last step in breaking out of my mould: taped-in hair extensions, which give long, luscious results with an easy and swift application.

So if – like me – you are looking to shake things up hair wise, you’ve come to the right place. Whether you want a dramatic colour change, instant length, more shine, encouragement to embrace your natural texture or the latest news on relaxing, we’ve got the inside track. Plus tons of expert advice, brilliant new style ideas and all of the products that’ll help you on the way. This is your guide – get inspired!

Wishing you many happy hair days,

Michelle Brownlee Smith
