We adore her for her gorgeous locks, her flawless beauty and her sparkling personality – former Miss SA and Miss World, Rolene Strauss shares opens up her beauty kit for us.
GLAMOUR: What are the five makeup items you can’t live without?
Rolene: Only five? That’s tough. I’m in love with these: Smashbox Under eye primer; Sensai Cream and Total Finish Foundation; Smashbox Contour Kit; Smashbox Full Exposure Palette and Mascara; and Smashbox Peachy Dream Blush.
GLAMOUR: What is your daily skincare routine?
Rolene: I wash my face every morning and evening with Nimue Cleansing Gel. If I’m wearing makeup, I’ll use Filorga Cleansing Oil. I then spray on Nimue Conditioner Tonic before applying a serum and moisturiser. At night I’ll use Nimue Active Gel and Purifier. I also spritz Vitamin C spray through the day for freshness and make sure to do an enzyme exfoliation twice a week. Then I try to a ‘no makeup day’ whenever I can.
GLAMOUR: Which skincare items would be your desert-island must-have?
Rolene: I would not be able to go without Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream! You can use it for basically anything…
GLAMOUR: How do you keep your hair looking glossy?
Rolene: A very good combination of in- and out of salon treatments, heat protection and simply trying to be gentle (which is not always too easy when it comes to styling every day!) I use mostly Gary Rom Hairdressing products.
GLAMOUR: What was your first fragrance?
Rolene: The first ever ‘real’ fragrance I used was DKNY (the green apple one).
GLAMOUR: What role does fragrance play in your life?
Rolene: Fragrances highlight and bring back of my most special memories and emotional experiences. One of the interesting things I’ve learnt as a medical student is that smell is closely related to memory. The olfactory bulb is part of the limbic system of the brain which is also called the ‘emotional brain’.
GLAMOUR: What fragrance do you wear now?
Rolene: My preference of fragrance tends to change constantly, but at the moment I am absolutely in love with Daisy Dream from Marc Jacobs.
GLAMOUR: What is your exercise routine?
Rolene: It is quite difficult to have a weekly routine with my travels, but I do try to visit hotel gyms for cardio and a little weight training as much as possible. I also travel with my skipping rope and would skip if there is no gym.
GLAMOUR: What is on your workout playlist?
Rolene: I love listening to motivational speakers and gospel music when working out.
GLAMOUR: What diet do you follow?
Rolene: I do not have a particular diet that I follow, but recently read the ‘Eat right for your Blood type’ book and find it quite interesting.
GLAMOUR: What do you do to relax?
Rolene: My ultimate relaxing remedy is to spend time with my family and loved ones.
GLAMOUR: When are you happiest?
Rolene: I am happiest when I am with the people I love and while working towards my goals in life.
