5 Best moments of Trevor Noah’s First Daily Show

Did you miss out on Trevor Noah’s first night behind the Daily Show desk? Don’t worry, we’ll tell you what you missed out on.

1 Trevor paid tribute to his predecessor. Again and again.

Trevor vowed to press on in the “war on bulls—t,” nodding to Jon Stewart’s final words on the show. The best shout-out of the night had to be the one Noah led with: “It’s weird, because dad has left. And now it feels like the family has a new stepdad. And he’s black.”

2 The pope helped Trevor win the crowd right away.

Trevor’s first monologue was about the country’s papal mania, and its crowning joke concerned Pope-mojis. Trevor suggested that sexting could get weird with the symbols: “Sup girl, u up? Because eggplant winky face pope likes cheesesteaks.”

3 Kevin Hart made a clean, get-in-and-get-out guest appearance.

Smart move putting Kevin on the docket for night one: Trevor seemed most at ease talking comedy with a fellow stand-up comedian.

4 The most important part: Does the moment of Zen still exist in a post-Stewart world?

It does. Trevor cued up a clip of Nancy Pelosi stammering over whether she’d miss Boehner. Breathe easy; your dream cycle, accustomed to being launched by that “moment of Zen” verbiage, doesn’t have to switch up its routine.

5 Speaking of your dream cycle, indulge us for a second here. Would you classify Noah’s dimples insanely cute or obscenely cute?

We’re going with “obscenely,” and expecting that they’ll follow us into sleepy fantasy land. Night, Trev, and congrats on one down.
