This couple said “I do” with their toes in the sand and waves crashing in the background. The perfect setting for a beach wedding? We think so!
“Seven years ago our friend Shannon introduced Alex and I, one kiss on the Fiction dance floor and it’s safe to say that we haven’t looked back since,” says Natassja. After many festivals, merged friendship groups, a move to London and adventures all around the world; Alex finally ‘popped the question’ in the crystal clear waters of Koh Tao.
Initially the couple planned to get married on a beach in Thailand, but after a serious illness in the family they realised that life is too short and precious to get married thousands of miles away from your loved ones. “Based on this we planned a celebration of our love with those that we cherish the most,” says Natassja. “It was all planned from London, without ever having even been to our venue or even the town itself.” The couple took a huge leap of faith and hoped that it all worked out- and boy did it! “Our wedding planner Irene Celliers was incredible and we could not have done it without her (a Lamberts Bay local and exactly what we needed),” says Natassja.
“My dress was the first one I fell in love with online (Regina by Anoushka G), I tried on a few others and eventually found my dress at The Wedding Dress Shop in Wimbledon, London,” says Natassja. Luck was definitely on the bride-to-be’s side as her dress was the only one left in that style – a sample in perfect condition and in her size!
“We are far from traditional so our dear friend Shannon married us in a beach ceremony, Joey Tribbiani (from F.R.I.E.N.D.S) style. Family and friends from all around the world travelled to a small west coast town to spend our most special day with us,” says Natassja. Dressed in daisies, fairylights, balloons and candles set the scene for the evening reception. “Set amongst incredible rock formations, we had the open air dinner and dance reception that we dreamed of. Simple and rustic, this echoed through in the venue and the scrumptious food; hearty South African fare,” says Natassja.
“Our wedding was that exactly – ours. I did my own makeup, a family friend did our hair, our incredible DJ is a friend from high school (silkmusic), we met our super talented photographer on a festival dance floor and our dear friend made our cake.”
