Your winter hair protection plan

Winter can be a tough time for your hair. Sadly it’s not only because of the cold weather itself, but also a result of our attempts to keep warm – ie: heaters, fires, nice hot baths. They suck moisture from our hair making it prone to dryness-induced damage.

It’s likely that you’ll notice an increase in BHDs during winter. Dry hair, dandruff, flyaways, breakage and split ends are, unfortunately, all too common…

But put away the hats and beanies, because TRESemmé has given us some top tips for protecting our locks during the dry season!

Condition

Dry heat and cold weather removes all the moisture from our hair, and dry hair breaks easily. Consider replacing your usual conditioner with a deep conditioning treatment. Use it at least once a week to replenish your hair. Keeping hair conditioned will also help to prevent static electricity and fly aways.

2 Keep it cool

Avoid excessively hot water when you wash your hair as it dries it out. Rinse in lukewarm or even cold water for smooth, shiny hair all year round!

Be gentle

Treat your dry and brittle hair delicately during winter. Try to avoid over-brushing. It’s a good idea to only comb your hair after you’ve washed it. Use products like TRESemmé Platinum Strength Shampoo and Conditioner which will help detangle your hair so combing will require less force.

Ditch the heat

By using a blow dryer, curling iron or flat iron you are drying your hair out even more in winter. If you absolutely must, (we understand!), then ensure that you use a product that will protect your hair from the head. Spread it evenly through your hair before you apply heat.

Avoid chemicals

Try not to perm, relax or colour treat your hair in winter.

Cover up

If you are going to be outside, especially in extreme temperatures or wind, protect your hair from the elements, and remember, the sun can be just as damaging in winter as it is in summer.
