A live band, burgers, and a donut stand brought lots of fun to this rustic South African wedding.
So, how did it all begin? “Andy and I knew each other from previous events, but the day he sparked an interest in me, was when I was attending Park Acoustics in Pretoria. Andy was there doing a show (he’s the drummer for blues-rock band Dan Patlansky), we bumped into each other and I invited him to join our group of friends after their set,” explains Belinda. “To my surprise he said yes and we ended up spending the rest of the afternoon together, chatting and listening to music. The following week we went out on our first official date.” Cute!
When it came to her big day, Belinda knew exactly what she wanted. “I grew up in hospitality – my mom’s family owns the Guvon Hotels & Spas group – and secretly always knew I wanted to get married at Kloofzicht Lodge,” says Belinda. “I asked for exclusivity of the venue and a special exception was made for me (they gave me the green light to put up a stretch-tent overlooking the beautiful Swartkop mountains).” Having worked in hospitality, Belinda also immediately knew who she wanted to contact in terms of suppliers. “My mom, Yvette Alberts, and a good friend, Reta Coetzee, helped me a lot to bring my Pinterest board to live. A lot of the items we made (popcorn boxes, donut stands, wishing wands, frames for menu and seating signage, bunting, shepherd hooks and console jars).”
Belinda wanted a rustic-chic wedding with a touch of elegance and soft colours. “The stretch-tent at the bottom of the lake was transformed into the prettiest, cosiest space filled with incredible flowers and decor, naked bulbs, a live band, burgers for dinner and one awesome party crowd! The atmosphere for the whole day was one of celebration,” explains Belinda.
“My dress was made by Vesselina Petcheva. I wanted a dress with shades of pink, lots of lace and tule and most importantly one that could swish. Vesselina was amazing! With each monthly fitting, my dress developed to reflect my personality and my style. I could not have asked for a more beautiful dress.”
