How to create Rita’s retro waves

Gabrielle's Gala - Red Carpet ArrivalsYour new best friend (and celebs too)? Pin curls. They’re cute enough for your Saturday errands – then shake ’em out for the gorgeous waves that’ll last all night.

1 Prep your curl

Start with clean, damp hair by towel-drying locks to get rid of any excess moisture. Grab a 2cm piece of hair along the hairline, comb out tangles as you go (damp hair can knot easily) and move to step 2.

2 Roll it up

Start at the roots. Wrap your hair around two fingers and twist, twist, twist until the ends meet at the base of the curl.

3 Pin it

Secure the curl with a big bobby pin so its firm at the base. Repeat steps 1 to 3 until all your hair is pinned. Then leave it all day, and don’t fuss with your hair.

4 Let ’em loose

Once your hair is completely dry, release each pin curl and finish with a touchable-hold spray. Leave hair sleek and polished or finger-comb a bit. The result: bouncy, sexy, big-impact curls.
