Is Ian Somerhalder the reason Nina Dobrev quit The Vampire Diaries?

Nina Dobrev was repeatedly begged by producers to stay on The Vampire Diaries.

The 26-year-old actress – who has now left the TV show – wanted to stop filming earlier, but the show’s creator Julie Plec talked her out of it, as she was so close to completing her six-season contract.

Julie said: “Nina had said earlier this year that she wanted to be done, and we spent a little time trying to talk her out of it. (We’d say,) ‘Oh, look at all these great plans of how you can stay!’ ”

Despite rumours that Nina was keen to leave the show because of her failed relationship with co-star Ian Somehalder – who recently got married to Nikki Reed – Julie is adamant there weren’t any “hard feelings” around her exit.

Speaking on the KCRW podcast, Julie said: “(Nina) was just looking forward to moving on with no hard feelings and no drama. “She finally was like, ‘No, I signed up for six years. I’ve done my six years. I’m ready to move on and spread my wings.’ ”

Nina’s exit is not the only one coming for the show, as Michael Trevino – who plays the show’s former werewolf Tyler Lockwood – will also leave his role as a series regular.
